JCS Carbon Reduction Plan
Our Commitment to Net Zero
At JCS Nuclear Solutions, sustainability is integral to how we do business. As a trusted partner in the nuclear, health, research, and defence sectors, we recognise the importance of reducing our environmental impact while delivering critical technologies.
We are committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with UK Government targets and the principles of responsible public procurement.
2023–2024: Our Baseline Year
We have published our first Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP), prepared in accordance with PPN 06/21 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This establishes our baseline emissions for UK operations:
- Total emissions: 40.00 tCO₂e
- Scope 1: N/A
- Scope 2: 3.50 tCO₂e
- Scope 3: 36.50 tCO₂e (primarily upstream transportation)
How We’re Taking Action
We’ve already implemented measures such as:
- Hybrid working to reduce office energy and commuting emissions.
- Electric vehicles for company travel.
- Responsible product design using recyclable materials.
- Recycling end-of-life products
Our Roadmap
Working with Ecologi, we will:
- Measure and iterate on emissions data.
- Improve logistics efficiency and reduce upstream transportation emissions.
- Switch to renewable electricity and enhance energy efficiency.
- Expand Scope 3 reporting to cover our full value chain.
- Engage suppliers and customers to innovate sustainable solutions.
Stakeholder Engagement Plan
Achieving Net Zero requires collaboration across our entire value chain. Our engagement strategy includes:
- Suppliers: Partnering to optimise logistics, adopt low-emission freight, and explore sustainable materials.
- Customers: Sharing progress and aligning with their sustainability goals to strengthen joint commitments.
- Industry Associations: Contributing to best practice forums and innovation initiatives in nuclear technology.
- Employees: Promoting awareness and training to embed sustainability in daily operations.
- Community & Regulators: Maintaining transparency through annual CRP updates and compliance with public procurement standards.
By fostering open dialogue and collaboration, we aim to drive innovation and ensure sustainability is embedded at every stage of our operations.
